Impossible series in oils

These are some from a series of paintings that were inspired by the ship in a bottle models that fascinated me as a child. They presented the opportunity to stretch my imagination, and give freedom to artistic licence. Putting the compositions together proved challenging because there wasn’t a single image to work from. Contents were photographed in a clear spaghetti jar, and different types of bottles were used for reference depending on the shape and size of what was inside. Highlights and shadows were mainly fabricated to create the setting and mood.

Exhibiting the impossible eggs brought about a funny experiment. Someone said that if eggs were soaked in vinegar they would be pliable enough to squeeze into the bottle. It had to be tried even though it sounded daft. Which is exactly what it turned out to be. Exploding eggs and a kitchen stinking of vinegar fumes is not a recipe for a harmonious relationship!

At some point in the future, I may develop fresh ideas that capture my imagination. If so, they will be available to buy, and if past experience is anything to go by, they will be purchased soon after hitting the website because this is one of the most popular collections I have created.
