BirdS in oils

Painting birds falls into two categories: conventional portraits in oils where I look for character and birds on musical instruments. The latter came about because I wanted to experiment with different ways of painting birds. It was whilst flicking through ornithology books that I came across a hummingbird which, given its name, spawned an idea. Creating the artwork wasn’t easy because I had to use artistic licence for angles and lighting, often from poor reference. Nonetheless, I enjoyed every minute of painting the picture and so I went on to make a series of ten images. Since then I have received a number of commissions for clients who wanted a specific bird on an instrument. If this appeals, please get in touch>>
