MIKE SKIDMORE: STILL LIFE AND PORTRAIT ARTIST
Mike’s still life in oils are inspired by whatever catches his imagination at the time. Reflective surfaces, evocative shadows, and contrasting textures are central to his work. His paintings sometimes pair unusual subjects, such as birds and still life objects, to tell a relatable story, and he often works in themes, sometimes with a surreal quality. Occasionally, Mike produces humorous artwork, as seen in his gardening and gigantic vegetable illustrations.
Mike also paints classical and more contemporary portraits in oils. For portrait commissions, he focuses on capturing a sitter's character through realism, expressions, and poses that reflect them. His personal portraits are his own interpretation of the person behind the image.
Mike works from his studio near the river in Ross-on-Wye, which is perfect for taking a walk to ponder ideas for new oil paintings. He has exhibited nationwide, and his paintings are primarily collected in the UK and the US.
